History

Johann Kattus GmbH looks back on over 165 years of Viennese entrepreneurial history. The company was founded in 1857 by Johann Kattus as a spice merchant dealing in wine, coffee, tea, tropical fruits, spirits and champagne. The family began producing sparkling wine as early as 1890. In 1898, Kattus was appointed purveyor to the imperial court – a sign of the highest quality and recognition at the imperial court.

Today, the family business is run by the fifth generation and is the only sparkling wine producer still operating in Vienna. Its location in the 19th district of Döbling combines tradition, craftsmanship and the Viennese way of life.

The historic Kattus cellars in Vienna's Döbling district offer a unique experience. Guided tours of the cellars give visitors fascinating insights into the history of the house, the production of sparkling wine and the development of the company.

After each tour, guests are treated to a sparkling wine tasting with selected Kattus specialities.
