Madhouse Tower - Collection of Anatomical Pathology
The Madhouse Tower is an important monument to the history of healthcare and medicine in the late 18th century. The striking round tower was built specifically for the care of mentally ill people. The Narrenturm was opened in 1784 by Emperor Joseph II and was the first institution in Europe dedicated exclusively to the treatment of the mentally ill. The listed building houses around 45,000 objects, the world's largest collection of pathological specimens.
